Little Abby is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that was born on 10/3/12. At her first vet visit at 9 weeks old Dr. Kavran noticed a very loud heart murmur. Although she was a typical happy and social puppy, she was less active and easily tired. Her gums were pale to gray instead of a healthy pink. An in house x-ray showed an enlarged heart. Dr. Kavran suspected a congenital heart condition known as a PDA. As recommended, Abby went to Michigan State, for an ultrasound of her heart (echocardiogram). This confirmed an abnormal vessel associated with her heart that had not closed at birth, called a patent ductus arteriosis (PDA). This interferes with normal circulation and oxygenation of the blood in the body. Left untreated this condition will cause a dog to develop heart failure at a very young age. However this condition, if caught early, can be surgically cured and a dog can live a normal life. Abby was fortunate that her parents were proactive in confirming her diagnosis and having surgery performed. In December 2012 Abby had her PDA repaired with the cardiology department at MSU. Although there were a few unforeseen surgical complications necessitating a blood transfusion, ultimately the procedure was successful and Abby was able to come home for Christmas!
Abby had a follow-up echocardiogram in August 2013 to confirm that her heart and lungs were healthy enough to undergo anesthesia for her spay. Despite her rough beginning, Abby is expected to live a normal life. We are happy to report a smooth anesthesia and surgery, with a comfortable recovery!
Since Dr. Lynch's return to practice, my Senior dog's problem of many years has improved tremendously with VOM, Acupuncture/Acupressure and Chinese herbs. Dr. Lynch's ability to assess the symptoms and zero in on an effective treatment was remarkable. I am thrilled to have these alternative veterinary services available in Traverse City.

I would highly recommend Dr. Lynch for treatment. The acupuncture treatments that he has done for my cat, Maxx, have done a world of good. It has made a huge difference and the effects from the treatments have been immediate for Maxx. It is so nice to have this treatment option available.

Thanks to the entire staff of Companion Animal Hospital for tirelessly working with me to assist my dog with her fear of nail cutting! She is now able to have this procedure without any fears or resistance! Additionally the wellness care and the sincere interest in her from the staff is so nice. Always pleasant and professional the Doctors and staff are above average. I recommend this Animal Hospital to all my friends and co-workers and many now use them with the same satisfaction.
