The doctors and staff of the Companion Animal Hospital welcome new clients and long time friends with their special brand of high quality, compassionate care.
Dr. Jennifer E. Kavran has been with Companion Animal Hospital since graduating from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She lives with her husband, three cats, a cockatiel, and a budgie. She loves helping our remarkable clientele nurture and lengthen the bond they have with their animal companions. Over the past 14 years she has particularly enjoyed developing trusting relationships with longtime clients and their pets. It is rewarding to work as part of a team that is constantly striving to serve both the animals and their human caretakers to the best of their ability. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, snowshoeing, birdwatching, cooking and playing the harp.
Dr. Rebecca DeSimone comes to Companion Animal Hospital after practicing in Lansing for two years. She is a graduate from University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, class of 2015 and moved to Michigan immediately after graduation. She grew up in a suburb of Chicago and loves calling Northern Michigan her new home. Her love for veterinary medicine is deep routed through her passion of working with people and animals. Dr. DeSimone has interests in preventative care, dentistry, and nutrition, but also the constantly evolving nature of veterinary medicine. She appreciates the long-term client relationship and loves treating your four-legged family members as her own as they continue to grow. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, bike riding and playing pickleball with her husband and spending time with their dogs Pebbles and Cooper.
Dr. Marcia Izo (Seymour) (Retired) is the founder of Companion Animal Hospital of Traverse City. Her practice offers wellness, medical, surgical and dental care for dogs, cats, rabbits and pocket pets. Dr. Izo is a 1979 graduate of Michigan State University and has practiced in the Traverse City area for 37 years. She also served on the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association Board of Directors for 5 years and the Michigan State University Practitioners Board. Her daughter is a practicing small animal veterinarian in Virginia and also graduated from MSU. At home are two wonderful Golden Retrievers Sally Anne and Isla. In her spare time, she enjoys biking, hiking with her dogs, scuba diving, and fishing in Florida with her husband Terry.
Dr. Al Lynch (Retired) is a 1968 graduate of Michigan State University and is excited to return to practice after a five year “retirement”. Integrating complimentary therapies into traditional medicine has always been a passion, and eventually led Dr. Lynch to pursue the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine and enrollment into the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society certification course for veterinary acupuncture. Dr. Lynch shares his love of animals with his wife of 49 years, Nan and three children. The current Lynch household includes two dogs, two cats and a horse.
Since Dr. Lynch's return to practice, my Senior dog's problem of many years has improved tremendously with VOM, Acupuncture/Acupressure and Chinese herbs. Dr. Lynch's ability to assess the symptoms and zero in on an effective treatment was remarkable. I am thrilled to have these alternative veterinary services available in Traverse City.

I would highly recommend Dr. Lynch for treatment. The acupuncture treatments that he has done for my cat, Maxx, have done a world of good. It has made a huge difference and the effects from the treatments have been immediate for Maxx. It is so nice to have this treatment option available.

Thanks to the entire staff of Companion Animal Hospital for tirelessly working with me to assist my dog with her fear of nail cutting! She is now able to have this procedure without any fears or resistance! Additionally the wellness care and the sincere interest in her from the staff is so nice. Always pleasant and professional the Doctors and staff are above average. I recommend this Animal Hospital to all my friends and co-workers and many now use them with the same satisfaction.
